Part 3: The Secret Beneath the Foundation

As police arrived, Grayson finally snapped.

"You think she's innocent?" he shouted.

"Ask her about the foundation."

Everyone turned toward Harper.

Wrapped in a blanket and seated beside the fireplace, she looked confused.

"What foundation?"

Grayson laughed.

A desperate, ugly sound.

"The children's charity."

Dominic frowned.

The charity carried the Langford family name.

For years it had received millions in donations.

Harper shook her head.

"I've never been involved."

"Exactly!" Grayson shouted.

"Because your mother discovered what we were doing before she died."

The room froze.

Harper's face drained of color.

"What?"

For twenty years she had been told her mother died in a car accident.

Grayson lowered his head.

Then, for the first time, fear appeared in his eyes.

Because he knew it was over.

"The charity wasn't real."

The confession fell into the room like a bomb.

"It was a laundering operation."

Guests backed away.

Reporters grabbed their phones.

Police officers moved closer.

Grayson continued speaking as though years of lies were finally collapsing under their own weight.

"Your mother found the records."

Harper couldn't breathe.

"And when she threatened to expose us..."

His voice broke.

Nobody needed him to finish.

Everyone understood.

Including Dominic.

Especially Dominic.

Because suddenly Harper's bruises weren't the beginning of the story.

They were the continuation of a crime that had started decades earlier.
