Chapter 2 - The Power Restored

Savannah locked the door behind him with shaking hands and rushed into the kitchen. She plugged the portable power bank into her small refrigerator. Within seconds, a soft hum vibrated through the quiet apartment, and the interior light blinked on.
She mixed the formula in the dim kitchen light, her hands moving with hurried efficiency. Minutes later, she sat in the rocking chair in the living room, cradling little Noah as he drank greedily from the bottle. The frantic, hungry cries faded into contented swallows, and Savannah closed her eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath that felt like she had been holding it for days.
Her phone buzzed on the side table.
She picked it up. A new text message from the unknown number: The power bank is yours to keep. Make sure the formula lasts.
Savannah stared at the screen, her mind racing. Who was this man? How did he know her last name? And more importantly, how had a mistaken text message landed in the hands of someone who could show up with expensive hypoallergenic formula in a matter of twenty minutes?
She opened her contacts, finally typing the number into a search engine to see if a name or business would pop up.
The search results loaded instantly. Her breath caught in her throat.
