CHAPTER 3: THE MAN WHO CAME BACK

Three months later, Ryan Foster walked into Jenny's apartment like he still owned it.

"I want to see my son."

Jenny immediately stepped in front of Liam.

"You lost that right years ago."

Ryan smirked.

"You think a judge will agree?"

Marco happened to be standing in the kitchen.

Ryan didn't recognize him.

Big mistake.

"Who are you?" Ryan demanded.

Marco slowly stood.

"I'm the reason you're leaving."

Ryan laughed.

Then stopped.

Because he finally recognized the face.

The confidence disappeared instantly.

Investigators had already been examining Ryan's financial records.

The forged loans.

The stolen identity.

The unpaid taxes.

The hidden accounts.

Everything.

Within weeks, criminal charges followed.

Ryan's lawyer negotiated desperately.

It didn't help.

The evidence was overwhelming.

The judge sentenced him to prison.

The debt was erased.

Jenny's credit was restored.

And for the first time in years, she could breathe.

One year later, Marco stood in a small backyard decorated with white lights.

Friends and neighbors filled the garden.

Liam wore a tiny suit.

Jenny stood beneath an arch of flowers.

Beautiful.

Happy.

Free.

Marco took her hands.

"That day in the pawn shop," he said softly, "you thought you were losing the last thing connecting you to the world."

Jenny smiled through tears.

"You were watching?"

"Every second."

The guests laughed.

Liam tugged Marco's sleeve.

"Can I call you Dad now?"

The question nearly destroyed him.

Marco knelt immediately.

"You can call me Dad forever."

The little boy launched himself into Marco's arms.

And for the first time in a very long time, the feared mafia boss cried openly.

Because power had never made him happy.

Money had never made him happy.

Fear had never made him happy.

But a woman who sold her phone to save her son had changed everything.

Sometimes the strongest people aren't the ones who control cities.

They're the ones who sacrifice everything for the people they love.
