Chapter 3 - The Truth Everyone WitnessedOfficer Daniel Brooks approached calmly.

"Who made the emergency call?"
"I did."
I stepped forward.
"My daughter is the victim."
Maya instinctively lowered her head.
Officer Brooks softened his voice.
"Ma'am, are you injured?"
She hesitated.
David answered first.
"It was an argument between husband and wife."
Rebecca quickly added,
"Families fight."
The second officer interrupted.
"Sir, please remain silent."
The restaurant manager finally found his voice.
"I witnessed him dragging her by the hair."
"So did I."
A waiter raised his hand.
"Me too."
Another customer stood.
"I recorded everything."
Then another.
"And I have it from another angle."
Within seconds, nearly a dozen phones were raised.
David looked around in disbelief.
Nobody was protecting him anymore.
Officer Brooks accepted one phone.
The video played.
Crystal clear.
David grabbing Maya's hair.
Dragging her across the floor.
Rebecca applauding.
Every horrifying second captured.
The officer stopped the video.
"Sir..."
He turned toward David.
"Place your hands behind your back."
David exploded.
"You can't arrest me over a family disagreement!"
Officer Brooks answered evenly.
"We're arresting you for assault and domestic violence."
The handcuffs clicked shut.
Rebecca jumped to her feet.
"This is ridiculous!"
The second officer faced her.
"Ma'am, we'll also need a statement regarding your encouragement during the assault."
Her confidence finally cracked.
"I didn't mean..."
The officer wasn't listening.
Maya suddenly began crying.
Not from fear.
From relief.
She looked at me with tears streaming down her face.
"I thought nobody would believe me."
I wrapped my arms around her.
"I always believed you."
As David was escorted toward the exit, reporters began gathering outside.
Someone had already uploaded the restaurant video online.
