Chapter 5 - Playback
Fifteen minutes later, the head of hospital security, a retired detective named Miller, walked into the room carrying a rugged silver laptop. He closed the door behind him and locked it.
The atmosphere in the room turned suffocatingly heavy.
"I have the raw feed from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM," Miller said, placing the laptop on the movable tray table next to my bed. "Unedited, time-stamped."
Marcus stepped up beside the table. He looked down at me. "Can you handle this, Khloe?"
"I need to know," I said, my voice steady despite the tremor in my hands. "Press play."
Miller clicked the mouse.
The video opened with a wide shot of my room at 2:05 PM. I was lying in bed, asleep. The room was quiet.
At 2:12 PM, the door opened, and Isabella walked in, wearing her red dress, holding a leather handbag. She didn't look around. She walked directly over to my IV pole.
My breath hitched.
On the screen, Isabella opened her handbag and pulled out a small glass vial and a pre-filled syringe.
Marcus gasped loudly, leaning over the screen. "What is that?"
In the video, Isabella carefully injected the clear liquid from the syringe into my IV bag. She watched the fluid mix, a subtle, dark smile touching her lips.
"She poisoned her," Marcus whispered, his voice shaking with a terrifying mix of rage and horror. He turned toward the guards. "Call the police! Call them right now!"
"Wait," Miller said calmly, placing a hand on Marcus's arm. "Look at the time stamp. That was at 2:15. Look at what happens at 2:20."
We kept watching.
On the video, after injecting the fluid, Isabella didn't leave. She stood over my sleeping form. Then, she pulled out her cell phone and dialed a number on speakerphone.
The audio on the security recording was crystal clear.
“Is it done?” a man’s voice echoed from the laptop speakers.
It was a voice I recognized instantly. A voice that sent a wave of icy terror straight to my core.
It was the voice of Marcus’s brother.
