Chapter 7 - A New Horizon

Back in Manhattan, the rain had cleared, leaving the city air crisp, sharp, and smelling faintly of autumn.
Grace stood on the private terrace of a stunning, newly purchased penthouse overlooking Central Park, holding a glass of sparkling mineral water. The transition had been seamless. With Martin Hale’s legal guidance, her personal assets had been successfully decoupled from the wreckage of Cole-Bennett, and her reputation as an elite financial strategist remained entirely unblemished.
Her phone chimed softly on the patio table.
She picked it up and glanced at the screen. An encrypted email from Martin’s office contained the final, certified copy of her divorce decree, stamped and approved by the New York State Supreme Court.
Status: Finalized. Legal Liabilities: Zero. Personal Net Worth: Uncompromised.
Grace swiped the notification away, locking the screen and setting the phone back down on the table. She didn't feel anger. She didn't feel vindication.
She felt light.
For over a decade, her life had been defined by what she was protecting—by the fires she was putting out behind the scenes, the crises she was quietly averting, and the fragile ego of a man who mistook his own reflection for an empire.
Now, the fire was out, the smoke had cleared, and the canvas was entirely blank.
She walked back inside the spacious, light-filled living room, running her hand along the smooth grain of a modern walnut console table. The interior was minimalist, elegant, and designed entirely around her own tastes—clean lines, open spaces, and absolute, undisturbed peace.
Her assistant, a sharp young woman named Chloe who had recently joined her newly formed private consulting firm, stepped out of the home office with a leather portfolio.
"Grace, the venture capital portfolio review for the green-tech startup is ready for your signature," Chloe reported professionally. "And the board of directors from the boutique hospitality group in Zurich are on the line for our introductory consultation."
Grace smiled, her eyes bright with focused, unburdened ambition.
"Tell the board in Zurich I'll take the call in five minutes, Chloe," Grace said smoothly. "And let's schedule a meeting with the tech founders for Tuesday morning. I want to review their risk models personally."
"Right away, Grace," Chloe said, nodding before heading back to the office.
Grace walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out at the endless expanse of the Manhattan skyline glowing in the afternoon sun.
Ethan had wanted a global empire built on sand, fueled by arrogance, and propped up by stolen shadows.
Grace had chosen something far more enduring.

She had chosen herself.
And as the city hummed below her with endless possibilities, she took a deep breath, stepped forward into her new life, and never looked back.
