My husband brought his mistress to his father’s birthday dinner and introduced her in front of the entire family

. He clearly wanted everyone to see who he had chosen. But his father noticed something far more troubling than the affair. Seconds later, he slapped his own son across the face and ordered, “Get out.”
The moment my husband walked into his father’s seventieth birthday dinner with another woman on his arm, the entire private dining room went silent.
I was already seated beside my mother-in-law at a long table inside a steakhouse in Chicago. Twenty-two relatives had gathered for the celebration. My husband, Daniel Mercer, was supposed to arrive straight from work.
Instead, he entered with Vanessa Reed, a woman I recognized immediately.
She was thirty-two, polished, confident, and wearing the diamond necklace Daniel had told me was a corporate gift for “an important client.”
For three months, Daniel had denied having an affair.
That evening, he stopped pretending.
“Everyone,” he announced, keeping one hand at Vanessa’s waist, “this is Vanessa. She’s very important to me.”
Nobody spoke.
I felt my mother-in-law, Linda, grip my wrist beneath the table.
Daniel looked directly at me.
There was no shame in his expression.
Only challenge.
He wanted me humiliated publicly.
“Daniel,” I said quietly, “what are you doing?”
He smiled.
“Being honest for once.”
Vanessa lowered her eyes, but she did not step away from him.
Daniel’s younger sister, Rebecca, whispered, “You cannot be serious.”
Daniel ignored her.
Then his father stood.
Arthur Mercer had spent forty years running a construction company before retiring. He was a quiet man who rarely raised his voice. At seventy, he still carried himself like someone people instinctively listened to.
He stared at Vanessa.
Then he stared at his son.
Something changed in his face.
Not because he had suddenly realized Daniel was cheating.
Arthur had known.
He had discovered something else.
“Where did you meet her?” Arthur asked.
Daniel frowned.
“Dad, not tonight.”
“I asked you a question.”
Daniel sighed dramatically. “Through work.”
Arthur looked at Vanessa again.
“What company?”
Vanessa opened her mouth, but Daniel interrupted.
“This is ridiculous.”
Arthur stepped closer.
“Did you use Mercer Development money?”
The room seemed to shrink.
Daniel froze.
I turned toward him.
“What money?”
Arthur pulled a folded bank statement from his jacket.
“For six months,” he said, “someone has been charging hotel suites, jewelry, restaurants, and apartment rent to a corporate redevelopment account.”
Daniel’s face went pale.
Vanessa slowly removed her hand from his arm.
Arthur’s voice remained controlled.
“I gave you until Monday to explain the missing one hundred eighty-four thousand dollars.”
My stomach dropped.
Daniel had told me the company was struggling. He had postponed repairs on our house. He had complained about bills.
Arthur stepped closer.
“And you brought the evidence to my birthday dinner.”
Daniel hissed, “You don’t understand.”
Arthur slapped him across the face.
The sound cracked through the room.
“Get out.”
Daniel stared at his father in disbelief.
Arthur pointed toward the door.
May you like
“Both of you. Get out of my sight.”
