Chapter 3 - The Web Unravels

The illusion of peace at Villa Fontana shattered completely.

Valentina let out a sharp, erratic laugh, the glossy socialite facade finally cracking away to reveal a desperate, cornered animal. “You think you’re invincible, don’t you, Alessio?” she hissed, stepping away from the bar. “You sit in your fortress and treat everyone around you like chess pieces! You thought you built an empire? It was built on the bones of families you destroyed!”

Alessio didn't flinch. He walked slowly toward her, his expression unreadable. “Who put you up to it, Valentina? Was it Thorne? Or did the syndicates from Chicago finally decide my terms were too expensive?”

“It doesn't matter who!” Valentina screamed, her voice echoing off the high ceiling. “By midnight, the federal indictment is going public. Your accounts are frozen. Your assets are seized. And when you drank that glass tonight, the new leadership was already scheduled to step into your shoes!”

“Unfortunately for you,” Alessio said, stopping two feet away from her, his voice chillingly calm, “I never drink a toast until I’ve inspected the glass.”

He signaled to his men. Senator Marcus Thorne, who had been trying to slip toward the side exit, was violently tackled to the floor by two enforcers, his expensive suit ruined as he was dragged into the center of the room and thrown at Alessio’s feet.

“Take them both to the lower warehouse,” Alessio commanded without a trace of emotion. “Let the federal prosecutors have whatever is left of them by morning. I handle my own internal matters.”

As Valentina and Thorne were dragged screaming from the ballroom, the remaining guests sat in paralyzed silence, terrified to even breathe too loudly.

The room was heavy, suffocating, and dripping with the silent menace of a king reclaiming his throne.
