Chapter 3 - The Audit and the Alias

The morning sun cast long, golden shadows across Alejandro’s private study on the second floor of the villa. Piles of financial ledgers, corporate ownership charts, and printed email threads covered the mahogany desk.

Mateo stood across from him, holding a thick manila folder filled with freshly printed bank transcripts and legal documents.

“You were right to dig, boss,” Mateo said, his voice grim as he slid a single sheet of paper across the desk. “Valerie wasn't just acting out of frustration or greed for your lifestyle. She had a financial partner. Someone who was funneling money into her personal accounts long before she ever met you at the Dallas branch office.”

Alejandro picked up the paper. His eyes scanned the routing numbers and corporate letterheads. The name at the top of the financial transfer made his blood run cold.

Vanguard Holdings, Valencia.

“Vanguard?” Alejandro muttered, leaning back in his leather chair. “That’s Julian Vance’s holding firm. My primary competitor in the southern development bids.”

“Not just a competitor,” Mateo corrected, tapping another document. “Julian Vance is married to Beatriz’s first cousin. They planted her in your company eighteen months ago, right when you were preparing the bid for the Marbella coastal expansion. Her job was to get close to you, marry you, and gain legal access to your voting shares in the board.”

Alejandro stared at the documents, the pieces clicking together with terrifying clarity. The sudden romance, the rushed rooftop wedding, the way Valerie constantly pushed him to spend more time traveling to Dubai and Madrid—it wasn't just domestic abuse; it was corporate espionage wrapped in a marriage certificate.

And Isabella had simply been in the way. A collateral obstacle in their plan to isolate Alejandro and weaken his control over the family trust.

“They thought by breaking my spirit through my daughter, I would sign over the voting rights out of sheer exhaustion,” Alejandro whispered, his voice dangerously low.

“What do you want to do?” Mateo asked, his hand resting near his holster. “We can destroy Vance’s shipping lines by noon. We have the leverage on their offshore tax evasion.”

“No,” Alejandro said, standing up and buttoning his suit jacket. “Destroying them financially is too easy. They hurt my daughter. They turned my home into a prison camp. I want them to face criminal prosecution for child endangerment, fraud, and conspiracy.”

Just as Alejandro reached for his phone to call District Attorney Morales, a soft knock sounded at the study door.

The door creaked open, and Isabella peeked inside, wearing her favorite blue sweater, her hands wrapped in clean white gauze.

“Dad?” she asked timidly.

Alejandro’s expression transformed instantly, all the corporate coldness melting away as he walked over and knelt down in front of her.

“Hey, princess,” he smiled, gently touching her shoulder. “Are your hands feeling better?”

“Much better,” Isabella nodded, smiling brightly. “Mrs. Gomez made pancakes with strawberries. Can you come down and eat with me?”

“I would love nothing more,” Alejandro said, picking her up effortlessly and carrying her toward the kitchen.

For the next hour, the study, the corporate war, and the threat of Julian Vance faded into the background. In the warm sunlight of the kitchen, Alejandro sat with his daughter, watching her laugh as she covered her pancakes in maple syrup. The nightmare was ending, and the foundation of their family was finally being rebuilt on truth, safety, and unbreakable love.
