PART 2

Rodrigo slammed the truck door so hard the sound echoed down the quiet street.

Dust rose from the cracked driveway as he strode toward the front porch, his polished shoes looking absurd against the broken concrete.

"What are you doing?" he demanded.

Elena instinctively stepped in front of the opened wall.

"Leaving me with a collapsing house wasn't enough?" she asked calmly.

"You have no right to destroy family property."

Monica folded her arms.

"Family property?" she scoffed. "I thought you said this place was worthless."

Rodrigo's jaw tightened.

"I came to make sure she's not stealing anything."

Elena looked at him for several long seconds.

Then she slowly lifted the sealed envelope.

Rodrigo's confident expression vanished.

Only for a moment.

But she saw it.

"What is that?" he asked too quickly.

"You tell me."

He climbed the porch steps.

"Give it to me."

"No."

His voice hardened.

"That belongs to my grandmother."

Monica laughed.

"Interesting."

"You didn't care about this house for seven years."

"Now suddenly you're worried about what's inside the walls?"

Rodrigo reached for the envelope.

Elena stepped back.

"If it's worthless," she said quietly, "why are you afraid of what's written here?"

Silence.

Only the wind moved through the overgrown yard.

Rodrigo tried another approach.

"Elena..."

His voice softened.

"I know everything happened too fast."

"We can still work this out."

Monica rolled her eyes.

"Oh, now he remembers her name."

Elena ignored him.

She carefully broke the wax seal.

Inside lay several folded documents.

A handwritten letter rested on top.

The paper had yellowed with age.

The handwriting was elegant but shaky.

She unfolded it.

To the woman my grandson believes he can abandon,

If you are reading this, then Rodrigo has become exactly the man I feared he would become.

If he has brought you to this house, it means he believes it is worthless.

He is wrong.

Very wrong.

Do not let him interrupt you before you finish reading.

Because once he knows you have found this letter...

...he will try to take everything back.

Rodrigo's face turned pale.

"Stop reading," he said sharply.

Elena continued.

When my husband died, he left me two inheritances.

The first was visible.

This old house.

The second was hidden.

A collection of investments, land titles, and company shares that no one knew existed except my attorney.

I watched my grandchildren carefully.

Only one of them ever asked how I was feeling.

Only one visited because they loved me instead of what they expected to inherit.

It was not Rodrigo.

He visited only when he needed money.

So I made a decision.

If Rodrigo ever abandoned his wife...

If he ever chose greed over family...

Then everything I owned would belong to the woman he tried to leave behind.

Not to him.

Not to his future children.

To you.

Rodrigo lunged forward.

"That's enough!"

Monica stepped directly between him and Elena.

"You touch her," she warned, "and I'm calling the police."

His breathing grew uneven.

"That letter means nothing."

Elena reached deeper into the envelope.

There were more documents.

A notarized will.

Property deeds.

Investment certificates.

Bank trust information.

And one business valuation.

She stared.

The number printed across the last page made her heart stop.

Estimated current value:

48.6 million pesos.

Monica grabbed the paper.

"...Forty-eight million?"

Rodrigo closed his eyes.

As if everything he had spent years hiding had finally escaped.

Then another vehicle pulled into the driveway.

A dark blue sedan.

An elderly man stepped out carrying a leather briefcase.

He adjusted his glasses before looking toward the porch.

"Mrs. Elena Vargas?"

She nodded cautiously.

"I'm Arturo Medina."

"Your grandmother-in-law asked me to come here..."

"...only if this wall was ever opened."

Rodrigo whispered one desperate word.

"No."

Arturo looked directly at him.

"I'm afraid it's too late."

Then he removed another sealed folder from his briefcase.

"And this," he said, "changes everything."
