Chapter 6 - The Thread of Grace

Three months later, the spring sun over Central Park was warm, bright, and filled with the promise of a brand-new beginning.
The wind no longer bit like a blade. Instead, it carried the sweet scent of blooming cherry blossoms along the pathways near Bethesda Terrace.
I pushed the double-wide stroller down the paved walkway, watching as Noah and Ivy pointed excitedly at a flock of pigeons splashing in the fountain. "Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Vale?" he asked gently, using the title we had legally reclaimed in a quiet, private ceremony at City Hall just a week prior.
I looked down at the three children laughing by the fountain, then up at the man who had fought through an empire to find us.
"I was just thinking," I smiled, sliding my hand into his warm, calloused palm, "that the most beautiful things really are the ones that survive breaking."
Sebastian pulled me close against his chest, pressing a warm kiss into my hair as the afternoon sun wrapped around us like golden silk.

Our story hadn't started easy, and the scars would always remain. But as I looked into those familiar, storm-gray eyes staring back at me, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:
We were finally home.
