CHAPTER 2: THE FALL

Two weeks later, Mother organized a lavish family celebration.

She wanted everyone to see how successful Ricardo had become.

Business partners.

Friends.

Investors.

More than two hundred guests filled the ballroom.

Mother raised a champagne glass.

"To family."

The irony almost made me laugh.

Ricardo stood beside her.

Wearing my confidence.

Living in my house.

Running my company.

Enjoying the life he stole.

Then I stepped onto the stage.

"Before we celebrate," I said, "I'd like to show everyone something."

The projector behind me lit up.

The room grew quiet.

One by one, the documents appeared.

Forged signatures.

Illegal transfers.

Fraudulent contracts.

The smiles disappeared.

Then came the audio recording.

My mother's voice echoed through the ballroom.

The guests stared in horror.

Ricardo's face turned white.

Mother nearly dropped her glass.

"No..." she whispered.

But it was too late.

The room had already turned against them.

Several investors immediately announced they were withdrawing support.

Others walked out.

Then two detectives entered through the main doors.

They approached Ricardo first.

"You are under arrest for fraud, coercion, and financial crimes."

Mother screamed.

Ricardo tried to run.

He didn't get far.

As officers led them away, he looked at me.

"This isn't over."

I calmly answered.

May you like

"No, Ricardo."

"It is."
