Chapter 9 - THE TRUST RESTORED

One year later.

The annual Blackwood Manufacturing Employee Picnic was held on the grounds of the newly renovated facility in South Seattle.

The sun was warm, the air filled with the smell of barbecue and the sound of children laughing as they ran through the grass. Over three hundred employees and their families were gathered, celebrating a record-breaking fiscal year under the new management.

I stood on the small wooden stage near the pavilion, looking out at the crowd.

"Thank you, everyone," I said into the microphone, my voice echoing clearly over the park. "A year ago, we were facing a crisis that threatened to destroy everything this company had built over the last forty years. But because of your hard work, your loyalty, and your trust, we didn't just survive. We thrived."

The crowd erupted into a roaring applause, the workers whistling and cheering.

I stepped down from the stage, where Maya Chen was waiting for me with a glass of lemonade.

"You did good, Vivienne," Maya said, clinking her glass against mine. "The pension fund is fully restored, the company's debt has been cut in half, and the new board of directors actually knows how to read a balance sheet."

"We did it together, Maya," I said, looking out at the happy families.

"And what about the house?" she asked.

"I sold it yesterday," I said, a soft, peaceful smile touching my lips. "A young family bought it. They’re going to tear down the old security cameras and paint the dining room yellow. They’re going to make it a real home."
