Vivian rose again.

"My son would never—"

"Mrs. Grant."

Judge Blake interrupted.

"Please remember you're under oath."

Vivian hesitated.

Then nodded.

Detective Reed opened another folder.

"This email came from your account."

He read aloud.

"No visible bruises before Saturday's gala. Makeup artist confirmed."

Another.

"Tell Preston to use her left side. Cameras favor the right."

The courtroom erupted.

Judge Blake slammed her gavel.

"Order!"

Vivian's face turned white.

"I..."

"You coached him."

Detective Reed's voice remained calm.

"You coordinated public appearances after assaults."

"No."

"You instructed him how to hide abuse."

"I didn't—"

"The metadata places every email on your laptop."

Vivian slowly collapsed into her chair.

For years she had protected her son's reputation.
