PART 3

By dawn, Alejandro brought Lucía to a private estate outside Mexico City.
For the first time in hours, she felt safe.
Then Alejandro opened a locked study.
Inside were boxes.
Dozens of them.
Files.
Bank statements.
Photographs.
Contracts.
Evidence.
Lucía sat down as Alejandro placed a photograph on the desk.
Her hands started shaking.
The picture showed her father.
Alive.
Smiling.
Standing beside Alejandro twenty years earlier.
"You knew him."
Alejandro nodded.
"He was my partner."
Lucía's eyes widened.
"My father never mentioned you."
"Because someone made sure he couldn't."
Alejandro handed her another file.
Inside were transfers worth millions of dollars.
Every payment led to the same person.
Teresa Rivas.
Lucía couldn't breathe.
"No..."
"Your father discovered she had been stealing from the company for years."
Tears filled Lucía's eyes.
"He trusted her."
"That's why she was dangerous."
Suddenly alarms sounded outside.
Marcos ran into the room.
"They found us."
Alejandro stood immediately.
Through the security cameras they watched black vehicles entering the property.
Teresa had arrived.
And she wasn't alone.
Police officers stepped out beside her.
Teresa pointed directly toward the house.
Lucía stared in disbelief.
"She told them I'm here?"
Alejandro's face remained calm.
"No."
He picked up the final file.
"She's here because she knows this evidence can send her to prison."
