Chapter 4 - The Tides of Power

By 7:15 AM the following morning, the morning mist had barely burned off the manicured lawns of the Vance estate when a massive, industrial moving truck rolled up the private cobblestone drive, its air brakes hissing loudly in the quiet neighborhood.
Behind it followed two black sedans carrying Victor Sterling and three armed court bailiffs.
Inside the mansion, chaos reigned supreme.
Julian, still wearing the same rumpled designer suit from the night before, burst out of the master study, his hair disheveled, shouting furiously into his phone while trying to reach his bank’s executive hotline—which continued to route him to an automated dead end.
Helen was pacing the marble foyer in a silk bathrobe, her face pale and bloated from a sleepless night of panic, screaming at a bewildered housekeeper who had arrived for work only to be met with a surreal nightmare.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Helen shrieked as Victor Sterling stepped calmly through the front doors, followed by the bailiffs. “Get off this property immediately! I am Helen Vance! My husband built this community!”
Victor didn't blink. He reached into his leather briefcase, pulled out a heavily stamped legal document, and handed it directly to Julian, who had rushed over from the hallway.
“Good morning, Mr. Vance,” Victor said smoothly, his tone dripping with formal professional indifference. “Per the executive default judgment filed at 6:00 AM under Vance Tech Holdings, the conditional residency agreement for this property has been terminated due to material breach of financial terms and verified household neglect.”
Julian stared at the papers, his hands trembling violently. “This is insane! You can’t throw us out! We have nowhere to go! My personal cards are still declined, my lawyers are filing an injunction—’
“Your lawyers dropped your case forty-five minutes ago when they realized your retainer check bounced,” Victor interrupted calmly. “You have two hours to pack your personal belongings, clothing, and non-commercial effects. The moving crew outside is contracted to box up the remaining inventory for auction settlement.”
“Where is Clara?!” Julian roared, losing whatever shred of composure he had left, his face turning purple with rage as he grabbed Victor by the lapel of his suit jacket. “Bring my wife here! She can’t do this to me! She’s just a woman—she’s supposed to support her husband!”
One of the bailiffs stepped forward instantly, prying Julian’s hands off Victor’s jacket with practiced ease and shoving him back against the mahogany console table.

“Do not touch my associate, Mr. Vance,” Victor said, adjusting his tie without missing a beat. “And for the record, Clara isn't just your wife anymore. She’s your primary creditor. And right now, she’s busy enrolling Leo into a private academy where the children aren't forced to sit in the corner with an empty plate.”
Julian sank slowly to his knees on the marble floor, staring up at the ceiling as the reality of his utter, total ruin finally crashed down upon him. The empire built on arrogance, exclusion, and cruelty had collapsed in less than twelve hours—not because of an economic crash, but because a mother had decided her son’s dignity was worth more than their entire fortune.
