Chapter 7 - The Shadows of the Past

While Ava and Dante built their fortress of iron and gold, the remnants of Boston’s old syndicate families made one desperate, final move.

Marco Moretti—an aging, vicious caporegine who had controlled the South Boston docks before Dante consolidated power—decided to strike where he thought Dante was weakest: through Mila.

It was a Tuesday afternoon when security alarms flashed red across the master terminals in Dante’s study.

Ava dropped her pen, her face turning pale. “Mila’s school—Moretti’s men are there!”

Dante didn’t flinch. He didn’t raise his voice. He simply reached into his desk drawer, pulled out a heavy 9mm Sig Sauer, slid it into his holster, and looked at Ava with eyes like solid steel.

“Stay in the safe room, Ava,” Dante ordered, his tone absolute.

“No,” Ava said, her voice ringing with steel-willed determination. “She’s my sister. I go with you.”

Dante stared at her for a second, saw the fierce, unyielding courage burning in her dark eyes, and nodded once. “Stay behind me.”
