Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

The sun dipped low below the horizon, painting the evening sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and deep rose.
Ryan stood on the front porch of their craftsman home, holding a mug of warm tea as he watched the neighborhood settle into evening tranquility. Across the lawn, the sprinklers clicked rhythmically, casting fine arcs of shimmering water across the green grass.
The front door opened behind him, and Leo stepped out onto the porch, wearing his favorite blue pajamas and clutching his stuffed bear under one arm.
"Dad, it’s past my bedtime," Leo announced with a theatrical yawn, though his eyes were still bright.
Ryan smiled, turning around and setting his mug down on the porch railing. He crouched down to his son’s eye level, resting his hands gently on Leo’s shoulders.
"You’re right, captain. Bedtime calls," Ryan said warmly. "Did you finish packing your bag for tomorrow’s camping trip in the backyard?"
"Got my flashlight, my sleeping bag, and my favorite comic books," Leo nodded proudly, his face beaming. "We’re really sleeping out under the stars tonight?"
"Every single star," Ryan promised, messing up Leo’s hair with a affectionate tug. "Just you and me."
Leo grinned, wrapping his arms around Ryan’s neck in a tight, fierce hug. Ryan embraced his son back, burying his face in the boy's hair, feeling the solid, vibrant warmth of real life pulsing against him.
They had walked through the deepest, darkest valley of deception and horror. They had faced the ghosts of a broken past, the bitter sting of betrayal, and the terrifying realization that evil can sometimes wear the face of someone you love.

Together, father and son had stepped back into the light, forging a bond that could never be broken by secrets or lies. The walls of their home were no longer hiding places for secrets; they were solid, open, and filled with safety, peace, and unconditional love.

"Come on, little man," Ryan whispered, standing up and taking Leo’s small hand in his. "Let’s go build our camp."
Hand in hand, father and son walked back inside, closing the door behind them as the first bright stars of the evening began to twinkle across the infinite, peaceful sky.
