Chapter 7 - The Cleansing of the Estate

By noon, the atmosphere in the Hudson Valley estate had shifted. The air felt lighter, though the silence was heavy with the absence of two people who had lived there for years.

Dominic stood in his private study, his desk covered in financial ledgers and shipping manifests. He had spent the last four hours systematically deleting every digital footprint Nathan had left behind. The bank accounts in Switzerland, the dummy corporations in Delaware, the off-shore logistics firms—they were all being rerouted to untraceable accounts.

Marcus entered, his boots clicking on the hardwood. "It's done, boss."

"The garage is clean?" Dominic asked, not looking up from his laptop.

"Spotless," Marcus replied. "They’re on a boat heading down the river. They won't be returning to Pennsylvania. Or anywhere else."

"And the Morettis?"

"We sent them a package," Marcus said with a grim smile. "Nathan’s phone. It had all the messages he sent to their underboss. We made sure it looked like he was playing them against another crew in Jersey. They think he ran off with their deposit."

Dominic closed the laptop. "Good. What about Mia?"

"The doctor says she’s stable. She’s resting in the guest wing with the kid. She asked to see you."

Dominic stood up, straightening his cuffs. The anger that had sustained him through the night was gone, replaced by a deep, hollow fatigue. He had lost his brother and his fiancée in the span of twelve hours. But as he walked down the corridor toward the guest wing, he realized he hadn't lost everything.

He still had the truth.
