Chapter 5 - The Legal Trap

The next morning, the sun rose over Marbella, but the villa felt like a tomb.
Beatriz had spent the entire night locked in the master bedroom, frantically calling attorneys, friends, and family members, trying to secure allies. But she didn't know that my legal team in Madrid had already been mobilized at midnight.
At 8:00 AM sharp, the heavy iron security gates of the estate buzzed. Two sleek black sedans rolled up the driveway. Out stepped Mateo Vance, my senior corporate counsel and one of the most ruthless litigators in southern Spain, accompanied by two independent child welfare officers and a local magistrate.
I met them at the grand double doors.
"Declan," Mateo greeted me with a solemn nod, shaking my hand. "Is the child safe?"
"Upstairs, resting with a private nurse I brought in from Málaga," I replied firmly. "Do you have the paperwork?"
"Complete and airtight," Mateo said, holding up a thick leather briefcase. "Emergency custody injunction based on documented child endangerment, neglect, and psychological abuse, backed by the cloud surveillance data your servers captured. Furthermore, we’ve initiated formal divorce proceedings under fault-based statutes, freezing all joint accounts and executing a restraining order that bars her from coming within five hundred meters of you or Isabella."
Before Mateo could finish, the grand staircase creaked.
Beatriz descended rapidly, dressed in a designer silk blouse and tailored trousers, though her hair was disheveled and her eyes were bloodshot from a sleepless night. When she saw the magistrate and the welfare officers standing in the foyer, her composure completely shattered.
"What is the meaning of this?" she shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at Mateo. "You can't just bring strangers into my home!"
"It's not your home, Beatriz," I said, stepping forward into her line of sight. "It never was. It was just a venue for your greed."
The magistrate stepped forward, holding an official court-stamped document. "Señora Beatriz Hawthorne, you are formally served with an emergency protective order, a temporary eviction notice from this property, and a total asset freeze pending criminal investigation for child abuse and labor exploitation."
Beatriz stared at the paper as if it were a death warrant. She looked from the magistrate to Mateo, and finally to me, her expression twisting from panic into raw, venomous hatred.
"You think you've won, Declan?" she hissed, her voice rising to a frantic pitch. "You think everyone will take your side? I'll destroy you in court! I'll tell the tabloids you're an abusive tyrant! I'll make sure everyone knows what kind of monster runs your precious real estate empire!"
"You're welcome to try," I replied, my voice chillingly calm. "But tabloids don't hold weight in front of federal judges reviewing high-definition video of an eight-year-old child being forced to carry garbage bags in the mud."
Mateo signaled to the two private security guards standing by the gates. They stepped inside, flanked by the welfare officers.

"You have two hours to pack your personal belongings under supervision," Mateo instructed flatly. "After that, any attempt to access this property or contact the minor will result in immediate arrest."
Beatriz glared at me with pure venom, realizing that her golden cage had slammed shut forever. Without another word, she turned on her heel and stormed back up the stairs to pack her things, defeated by her own cruelty.
