Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Code

By autumn, the crisp, golden air of October had returned to Southern California, bringing with it a sense of finality, completion, and deep domestic peace.
The house on Hawthorne Lane was no longer just a building; it was a sanctuary.
On a Friday evening, Ethan was sitting at the kitchen island working on a complex model rocket kit for his school science fair. Small plastic fins, glue bottles, and decals covered the quartz countertop as he carefully aligned the nose cone.

Claire’s smile softened. She reached out, gently tapping her knuckles three times against the edge of the quartz countertop.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

They had faced the ultimate betrayal, walked through the dark corridors of greed and malice, and torn down a prison built by someone who thought he owned them. But in the end, no amount of money, deception, or locked wood could ever extinguish the bond between a mother who refused to stay buried and a son who refused to stop listening.
As the autumn wind whispered softly through the palm trees outside, carrying the promise of a bright, unbroken tomorrow, Claire pulled her son into a warm, fierce embrace, knowing with absolute certainty that they were finally, truly safe.
