CHAPTER 4 – THE ENDING

Three months later.

Snow fell gently outside Saint Mary's Hospital.

Ethan stood beside Clara's bed holding her hand.

This time there were no machines screaming.

No police officers.

No coffins.

Only hope.

A newborn baby's cry filled the room.

Their daughter had arrived.

Healthy.

Strong.

Alive.

Clara cried as nurses placed the little girl in her arms.

Ethan kissed both of them.

For the first time in months, the nightmare was over.

A week later, Adrian was sentenced to twenty-five years in federal prison for attempted murder, conspiracy, and fraud.

Margaret received a reduced sentence after cooperating with authorities.

The family empire was transferred into a protected trust for Ethan and Clara's daughter.

Years passed.

The little girl grew up hearing the story of the day she unknowingly saved her mother's life.

The day a grieving husband refused to say goodbye.

One spring afternoon, Ethan took his daughter to visit a small chapel.

She pointed toward a photograph hanging on the wall.

“Daddy, is that where Mommy woke up?”

Ethan smiled.

“Yes.”

She tilted her head.

“Then that wasn't a funeral.”

He looked at Clara standing nearby, alive and laughing in the sunlight.

“No, sweetheart,” he said.

“It was a rescue.”

And together they walked away from the place where death had almost won—but didn't.

THE END.
