PART 3 — THE TRUTH BEHIND THE PERFECT FAMILY

Alexander said nothing for the first few seconds.

He just stood there, looking at Sofia as if he was trying to memorize every wound on his daughter’s face.

I had seen Alexander angry before.

During the years we were married, he could be cold, ruthless, and terrifying in business negotiations.

But I had never seen his eyes like that night.

It wasn’t anger.

It was a storm being held back.

“Sofia,” he said softly.

She looked at her father, her lips trembling.

“I’m sorry.”

That sentence left both Alexander and me frozen.

Sorry?

After everything they had done?

Alexander slowly sat down beside her.

“For what?”

Sofia lowered her head.

“For not listening to Mom. For thinking everyone was wrong about Javier. For disappointing both of you.”

I started crying.

Not because I pitied her.

But because it broke my heart.

My daughter had been beaten, threatened, humiliated…

And somehow, she still thought it was her fault.

Alexander gently lifted her chin.

“Listen to me.”

His voice was low but firm.

“The people who did wrong are the ones who hurt you. Not you.”

Sofia looked at him.

And for the first time in months, she cried like a child.

No longer trying to be strong.

No longer trying to protect anyone.

She was simply hurt.

I turned away, giving the father and daughter a private moment.

But in my mind, there was only one question.

How could a family hide cruelty like this?

The next morning, Alexander began to act.

Not loudly.

Not with threats.

Just short phone calls.

Messages.

Requests being sent out.

He called his private doctor.

Called his lawyer.

Called an old friend who worked in investigations.

I watched him sitting in the living room, calm in a way that was almost frightening.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

Alexander didn’t look up from his phone.

“Collecting evidence.”

“We already know what they did.”

He looked at me.

“No, Elena.”

A silence followed.

“We know Sofia was beaten.”

He placed the phone down.

“But we don’t know why.”

I frowned.

“Why?”

Alexander looked toward our daughter sleeping in the room.

“Carmen Robles didn’t hurt her just because of a condo.”

That sentence sent a chill down my spine.

“What do you mean?”

He opened a file on the table.

Inside were copies of transactions.

Company names.

Accounts.

Money transfers.

“I had someone investigate Javier.”

Alexander said.

“And there’s a problem.”

I stepped closer.

“What problem?”

He pointed at a line on the document.

A real estate company.

A name.

Robles Holdings.

“This family is millions of dollars in debt.”

I stayed silent.

“Carmen doesn’t want Sofia because her son loves her.”

Alexander continued.

“She wants Sofia’s assets.”

I felt sick.

“But Javier…”

Alexander gave a cold smile.

“Javier isn’t a victim.”

He turned another page.

“He knows everything.”

My heart tightened.

“No way.”

Alexander looked straight at me.

“Possible.”

Then he handed me a photograph.

A security camera image.

Time:

Three days before the wedding.

Javier was standing outside a law office.

Beside him was Carmen.

And the third person…

Was a notary.

I looked closer.

In Javier’s hand was a folder.

Alexander said:

“That was a property transfer document.”

I felt cold run through my body.

“They planned this beforehand.”

“Yes.”

He nodded.

“This wedding wasn’t about starting a family.”

A pause.

“It was a transaction.”

That afternoon, Sofia woke up.

When I entered the room, she was staring out the window.

“Mom.”

I sat beside her.

“How do you feel?”

She stayed silent for a moment.

Then asked:

“Do you hate me?”

That question hurt me more than any injury ever could.

“Why would I hate you?”

Sofia bit her lip.

“Because I married him.”

I held her hand.

“Sofia, listen to me.”

I looked straight into her eyes.

“Mom can be angry.”

“She can be hurt.”

“But she never stopped loving you.”

Tears fell from her eyes.

But this time, she didn’t apologize.

She only asked:

“Mom… can I get a divorce?”

I squeezed her hand.

“You don’t just can.”

I said.

“You will.”

But we didn’t know that at that very moment…

Somewhere else…

Carmen Robles was furious.

She threw her wine glass onto the table.

“What did the girl say?”

Javier stood in front of her, his face tense.

“She hasn’t said anything.”

“Then why did Alexander Hart show up?”

Javier stayed silent.

And that silence said everything.

Carmen stepped closer.

“You told me everything was under control.”

Javier clenched his jaw.

“I didn’t know he would come back.”

Carmen laughed coldly.

“Then we have to deal with him first.”

Javier looked at his mother.

“What do you mean?”

Carmen opened her phone.

On the screen was a photograph.

A file.

A secret Alexander didn’t know.

“We’re going to make him lose everything.”

And when Alexander received a call the next morning…

The caller was Javier.

But the first words he said changed everything:

“Mr. Hart… if you want to know the truth about the night Sofia was beaten…”

A pause.

“You need to know what happened to your daughter before the wedding.”

Alexander tightened his grip on the phone.

“What are you talking about?”

Javier lowered his voice.

“Carmen isn’t the only one hiding a secret from you.”
