Chapter 5: A Family Reclaimed

The old Hale estate had long since become a military memorial.

Colonel Vance brought Maya there one quiet afternoon.

Inside a glass display rested photographs of Nathan and Evelyn.

Maya stood silently before them.

"They searched for you until their last breath," Vance said softly.

"You were loved every single day."

She reached out and touched the glass.

"I wish I could remember them."

"You don't have to."

He smiled warmly.

"They live in the person you've become."

Later that evening, Maya opened a small wooden box recovered from the military archives.

Inside were letters her parents had written during overseas deployments.

One was addressed simply:

"To Our Daughter."

As she read the words her mother had written before Maya could even speak, tears quietly rolled down her cheeks.

For the first time in her life...

She knew where she came from.

More importantly...

She knew she had always belonged.
