CHAPTER 2 — THE FALL OF VICTOR HALE
The dining room fell silent.
Victor stared at the folder in the chairman’s hands as if reality itself had made a mistake.
“No,” he said.
The chairman didn't answer.
My father walked past him and stopped beside me. For a moment, his eyes softened when he saw the blood on my face.
Then the softness disappeared.
“Help my daughter up.”
Two board members moved immediately.
Victor looked around the room.
Nobody moved for him.
Nobody spoke for him.
His mother stepped forward first. “This is absurd. Victor owns fifty-one percent of the company.”
The chairman calmly opened the folder.
“Not anymore.”
Victor's face lost all color.
Three months earlier, while Victor was celebrating his upcoming merger, investors quietly sold their shares to a private holding company.
A holding company owned by Santiago Marquez.
My father.
“You manipulated the board,” Victor growled.
“No,” my father replied. “I educated them.”

The room became deadly still.
Camille slowly lowered her phone.
For the first time all evening, she looked frightened.
The chairman cleared his throat.
“Effective immediately, Victor Hale is removed as CEO and chairman of Hale Global.”
Victor laughed.
A desperate laugh.
“You need me.”
“No,” one board member said quietly.
“That was the problem. We thought we did.”
The words hit harder than any punch.
Victor looked around the room, searching for allies.
He found none.
Because power is loyal only to itself.
And Victor no longer had any.
