Chapter 10 - The Legacy of the Reeds

One year to the day after that fateful night at The Sterling, I stood on the peaceful, sunlit cliffs of Marseille overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The salt breeze gently tugged at my hair as I held a small, leather-bound volume in my hands—not the dangerous, blood-soaked ledger of Constantine Volkov, but my father’s original academic journal, safely recovered and restored by international archival historians.
Behind me, a black armored Mercedes pulled up quietly along the winding coastal road. The door opened, and Dominic Russo stepped out, walking slowly across the rocky terrain until he stood beside me at the edge of the cliff.
He didn't say anything at first. He simply looked out over the vast, blue expanse of the Mediterranean, letting the quiet serenity of the coastline wash over them both.
"Your father would have been proud of you," Dominic said quietly, breaking the silence with a gentle, sincere tone that only I ever got to hear. "Not just because you mastered his ciphers, but because you used them to build a life of absolute freedom, rather than letting them drag you into the darkness."
I opened my father’s journal to the very first page, where his handwriting, elegant and precise, filled the margin with notes on ancient linguistics and human perseverance.
"He always told me that codes aren't meant to hide secrets forever," I said softly, tracing the faded ink with my fingertips. "They're just puzzles waiting for the right person to come along and bring the truth into the light."
I closed the journal, holding it securely against my chest, and turned to face Dominic. The shadows of our pasts had been completely swept away by the Mediterranean sun, leaving behind a future built on mutual respect, unwavering strength, and a partnership that no syndicate in the world could ever break.
Dominic offered his arm with a quiet, confident smile.
"Ready to head back to New York?" he asked.
I looped my arm through his, feeling the steady, reassuring warmth of his presence.

"Let's go home," I said.
And together, side by side as equals, we walked back toward the car, ready for whatever adventures and secrets the world had left to uncover.
