Chapter 10 - The Ledger Balanced

Six months later, Lucia’s Ristorante was hosting the most exclusive private celebration in the history of downtown Chicago.
The dining room had been transformed into a bower of white roses, ivy, and warm amber candlelight. The string quartet playing softly in the corner filled the air with classical notes, while the kitchen—still overseen by a very polite, very well-paid Frank—churned out plates of truffle risotto and dry-aged beef that had food critics weeping into their notebooks.
At the center table sat Marco, now healthy, strong, and wearing a sharp tailored suit, laughing animatedly with Vinnie Gallo, who was gamely trying to explain the mechanics of classic muscle cars to a fifteen-year-old.
At table twelve—the very table where it all had begun—sat Alessandro and Bella.
Bella wore a stunning, minimalist white silk gown, her hair swept up with a few soft tendrils framing her glowing face. She raised her crystal flute of champagne, looking across the table at her husband.
Alessandro raised his glass to meet hers, the dark obsidian ring on his pinky catching the candlelight.
“To new books,” Bella said softly, her eyes shining with love and absolute peace.

“And to balanced ledgers,” Alessandro replied, his dark eyes softening with a warmth that only she would ever truly know.
They clinked their glasses together, the clear, bright ring of crystal cutting through the music, sealing a promise made in the rain, forged in a fortress by the sea, and kept for the rest of their lives.
