Chapter 2 - The Lie Beneath the MansionThe ambulance rushed Mia and Harper to St. Andrew's Medical Center under heavy security.

Doctors confirmed what Dominic had feared.

Mia was severely dehydrated.

She had survived three days with almost no food, only a leaking pipe dripping water through the stone ceiling.

Bruises covered her arms.

Her wrists had deep rope burns.

Worst of all...

Someone had injected her with enough sedatives to keep her weak without killing her.

It had been planned.

Carefully.

Deliberately.

Dominic stood outside her hospital room while detectives documented every injury.

Nathan remained beside him.

"This is unbelievable," Nathan said quietly.

"Someone wanted to frame Claire."

Dominic didn't answer.

Something felt wrong.

Nathan kept offering explanations before anyone asked questions.

Meanwhile...

Harper sat wrapped in a hospital blanket coloring with broken crayons.

Detective Elena Brooks knelt beside her.

"Sweetheart..."

"Can you tell me everything you remember?"

Harper nodded.

"I was hiding."

"Where?"

"In the laundry basket."

"Mommy said hide-and-seek."

She smiled faintly.

"I always win."

Everyone listened.

"I saw Miss Claire crying."

"Crying?"

Harper nodded.

"She told Mommy..."

"'I'm sorry.'"

The detective exchanged a quick glance with Dominic.

"Then Mr. Nathan came."

Harper's smile disappeared.

"He wasn't smiling."

"He pushed Mommy."

"Miss Claire screamed."

Then came the sentence that froze every adult in the room.

"He said..."

"'Nobody ruins twenty years of planning.'"

Dominic felt the blood drain from his face.

Twenty years.

Nathan had worked beside him...

For seventeen.

That night...

Dominic entered his private office alone.

Inside the safe sat decades of financial records.

Property deeds.

Investment files.

Old partnership contracts.

He began reading.

At 2:13 a.m...

He found it.

An old corporation created twenty-one years earlier.

One silent shareholder.

Nathan Cross.

Another silent investor...

Dominic's late father.

The signatures stopped after his father's death.

Nathan had quietly transferred assets ever since.

Hundreds of millions.

Slowly.

Patiently.

Invisible.

This wasn't betrayal born yesterday.

It had begun before Dominic inherited the empire.

Across town...

Claire Bennett packed expensive jewelry into designer luggage.

Nathan entered her luxury apartment.

"You've become careless."

Claire slammed the suitcase shut.

"You said she would die."

Nathan glared.

"She almost did."

"But that little girl..."

"I told you children complicate everything."

Claire poured herself whiskey with shaking hands.

"What now?"

Nathan smiled.

"We leave tonight."

"You'll marry Dominic in six weeks."

"And after the wedding..."

"He signs the final trust documents."

"Everything transfers."

Claire slowly realized something horrifying.

"You never loved me."

Nathan laughed.

"I don't even like you."

"You were useful."

Unfortunately for both of them...

Neither noticed the tiny blinking light beneath Claire's bookshelf.

Dominic's security team had already entered hours earlier.

Every word...

Every confession...

May you like

Every betrayal...

Was being recorded.
