Chapter 2 - The Network of Treason

The central monitor shifted, displaying a highly detailed organizational spreadsheet. Dominic’s eyes scanned the names, his blood turning to pure ice as he recognized the individuals listed under Victoria’s direct line of communication. It wasn't just a rival family; it was a rot that reached the absolute core of his own organization.

"Frank," Dominic breathed, his knuckles turning white as he stared at the name of his underboss—a man who had stood godfather to his son Lucas. "Frank has been with my family for twenty years."
"Frank bought a three-million-dollar villa in Zurich three months ago under a corporate shell name," Elena said, her fingers flying across the keyboard to pull up bank transactions. "Victoria didn't just stumble into your life, Dominic. She was handed the keys to your kingdom by the people you trust to guard the gates. Every time you went to New York or Detroit to secure your supply lines, Victoria was in this house, using systematic, physical, and psychological torment to ensure Lucas and Sophia were too terrified to tell you the truth. She told them that if they breathed a word to you, she would make sure you went to sleep and never woke up, just like their mother."
Dominic closed his eyes. The memory of his son Lucas passing the column tonight, looking him dead in the eye and keeping his mouth shut, returned with a vengeance that ripped his heart out of his chest. The boy wasn't being rebellious. He was protecting his father’s life. A seven-year-old child had carried the weight of an entire syndicate's cruelty to keep his dad from being murdered.
"The phone call she took tonight," Dominic said, his voice dropping into a register that made the server racks seem to hum louder. "She said the documents are ready. She said the children would no longer be a problem."
"Tomorrow night is the annual Moretti Charity Gala at the Drake Hotel," Elena explained, pulling up a security blueprint of the grand ballroom. "Victoria and Frank have arranged for a private security detail—Sovereign mercenaries disguised as your own men—to take control of the perimeter. The moment you sign the final power of attorney documents before the wedding, which Anthony Bianchi has modified to transfer all corporate assets to a blind trust controlled by Victoria, you are scheduled for an 'accidental' overdose in your private study."
"And my children?"
Elena looked away for the first time, her jaw tightening. "The 'problem' will be solved by an electrical fire in the residential wing of this estate while you are supposedly dead in the city. It’s a clean sweep, Dominic. They inherit the legacy, the ports, and the logistics network, completely clean of the Moretti bloodline."
Dominic stood perfectly still for a full minute. The rage inside him was no longer a hot, chaotic scream; it had distilled into a cold, diamond-hard clarity. He looked at his cufflinks—stained with the blood of a low-level enforcer he had interrogated earlier that evening regarding a hijacked shipment. That blood belonged to the wrong people.
"You've been in my house for two years, Elena," Dominic said, turning his head slowly toward her. "Why wait until tonight to show me this?"
May you like
"Because until tonight, you were blinded by the grief of losing Isabella and the illusion of safety," she replied, looking him directly in the eyes. "If I had shown you this six months ago, you would have stormed into Victoria's room, killed her, and triggered an immediate, chaotic war with the Sovereigns that you would have lost. Frank would have liquidated your assets instantly, and your children would have been taken before you could secure them. I needed you to see her for what she is when the stakes were absolute. I needed you to be ready to kill everyone involved."
"I am ready," Dominic said. "Tell me what we do next."
