One week later, the private coastal estate in Maine was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a late afternoon sun.
The wedding was small, quiet, and devoid of the bloated guest lists and political theater that had nearly doomed it from the start. Only close confidants, key advisors, and a handful of trusted family members attended.
Adrian stood at the altar in a crisp black tuxedo, watching as Vivian DeLuca walked down the aisle.
There were no weapons hidden in the silk this time. No secrets buried in the lining.
As Vivian reached his side, she offered him a small, genuine smile—the first real smile they had ever shared.
“If anyone tries to assassinate us today,” Vivian whispered under her breath as the priest began the ceremony, “I’m blaming your side of the family.”
Adrian let out a low, quiet chuckle. “ Fair enough.”
They exchanged vows not out of blind obedience to their fathers' ghosts, but out of a mutual understanding of survival, strength, and a shared future. The thirty-year war was officially over.
Two thousand miles away, inside a bright, sunlit kitchen in a quiet suburban town, a little girl sat at a wooden table coloring with a brand-new pack of Crayola markers.
Grace stood by the window, watching the afternoon breeze rustle through the green leaves of a massive oak tree in their brand-new backyard.
