The Mafia Boss’s Fiancée Hid Him Upstairs After He Was Paralyzed and Poured Champagne for His Enemy — Everyone Treated Him Like a Corpse Until the Maid Rolled Him Back Into Power

By seven o’clock, every chandelier in the Rinaldi mansion was blazing except the one in Matteo Rinaldi’s bedroom.

Downstairs, champagne passed on silver trays. Men who once waited for Matteo’s nod now laughed under his ceiling as if the house already belonged to someone else.

At the head of his table, in the chair that had been his for ten ruthless years, his fiancée lifted a glass.

“To survival,” Celeste said.

The room laughed.

Upstairs, Matteo heard every word.

He sat near the window, his hands locked around the wheels of his chair. The bullet had missed his heart, but it had taken everything below his ribs. Doctors had given it clean names. Spinal trauma. Permanent paralysis. Adjusted mobility.

Matteo only heard one truth.

He could not stand.

The bedroom door opened without a knock.

Elena Marlowe stepped in with his medication, a glass of water, and the kind of tired eyes that had no patience left for pity. She had been hired after four nurses quit. She did not tremble around him. She did not speak to him like glass.

And when Matteo realized his own family was conducting business beneath his floor, she looked at him and said the one thing no one else dared.

“Your hands work. Your voice works. Your mind works. The only person who decides whether Matteo Rinaldi attends dinner in Matteo Rinaldi’s house is Matteo Rinaldi.”

The room went still.

A minute later, Matteo said, “Get my suit jacket.”

Twenty minutes later, the elevator carried him downstairs for the first time in nearly three months.

Elena walked behind him, not pushing.

Just present.

At the dining room doors, Matteo stopped.

Inside, someone was sitting in his chair.

Elena’s hand hovered near the door, but she did not touch his wheelchair.

Matteo pushed forward himself.

The doors opened.

And one by one, the laughter died.
