Chapter 5 - The Foundation Restored

Six months later, the courtroom of the Chatham County Superior Court was quiet and sunlit.

The divorce had been swift, uncontested, and devastating for Ryan. Stripped of his corporate assets, facing a multi-count indictment for white-collar fraud, and abandoned by Lauren once the money dried up, he had accepted a plea deal that included mandatory restitution and a suspended prison sentence.

As for Lauren, her shell company had been dissolved, and she faced accessory charges for utilizing forged signatures on state property documents.

I stood on the wide veranda of the Jones Street townhouse, holding a cup of coffee as the morning sun warmed the historic brick facades of downtown Savannah.

The house was safe. My grandmother’s legacy was secure, completely unencumbered and firmly in my name alone.

My phone buzzed on the wrought-iron table beside me. It was a text from Jennifer with an attached photo of the final judgment decree stamped APPROVED.

I smiled, locked my screen, and took a deep breath of the morning air.
