PART 3

"Diego."
Valeria grabbed his hand.
His fingers twitched again.
The monitor beside the bed quickened.
She ran into the hallway.
"Catalina!"
Doctors rushed into the room.
Machines beeped.
Nurses shouted instructions.
And then...
Slowly...
Painfully...
Diego Beltrán opened his eyes.
The world blurred around him.
The first face he saw was Valeria's.
The same face from the highway.
The same voice that had begged him to survive.
His lips moved.
Barely.
"You."
Valeria's eyes filled with tears.
"You remember me?"
Diego nodded weakly.
Hours later, after doctors stabilized him, detectives arrived.
They wanted answers.
Diego gave them one immediately.
"It wasn't an accident."
The room went silent.
"What do you mean?" asked the detective.
Diego closed his eyes.
Fragments returned.
Rain.
Headlights.
Bruno's car behind him.
A violent impact.
His vehicle spinning.
Then darkness.
"He forced me off the road."
Catalina burst into tears.
Everything Valeria suspected was true.
Bruno had not only kept Diego unconscious.
He had tried to kill him first.
The investigation exploded across Mexico.
News stations camped outside the mansion.
Investors panicked.
The Beltrán empire trembled.
Meanwhile Bruno remained missing.
For six days.
Then he made a mistake.
He tried to withdraw money from a hidden account.
Police tracked him to a luxury villa near Cancún.
When officers arrived, Bruno ran.
But greed had never made him fast.
By sunset he was in handcuffs.
And for the first time in months, Diego slept without sedatives.
The nightmare was finally ending.
Or so everyone thought.
