Chapter 10 - THE VALENTE INHERITANCE

Seven months later, the spring sun was warm over the Swiss Alps, casting a brilliant, white light over the snow-capped peaks surrounding the Geneva estate.
The villa was beautiful, built of light stone and dark wood, perched high above the sparkling blue waters of the lake. It was quiet here. There were no sirens, no dirty snow, and no shadow of the Chicago Outfit.
Meline sat on the wide stone terrace, a soft, white wool blanket draped over her knees.
In her arms, wrapped in a pale blue blanket, lay her son.
Thomas Valente.
He was three months old now, healthy and strong, his dark, serious eyes already looking just like his father’s.
The C-section had been a success, performed by Dr. Thorne and a team of six cardiovascular specialists in the private medical wing of the villa. Meline’s heart had held under the pressure, the medication keeping her stable throughout the long, tense hours of delivery.
A step sounded behind her on the stone terrace.
Dominic walked out, his dark suit jacket gone, his white shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He looked relaxed, the heavy, constant tension that had defined his life in Chicago finally gone from his shoulders.
He knelt beside her chair, his large hand gently reaching out to stroke the soft, dark hair of his son.
"He’s sleeping," Dominic whispered.
"He’s always sleeping when you’re here," Meline smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder. "He knows his father is on guard."
"The Commission signed the treaty yesterday," Dominic said, his voice quiet and peaceful. "The Duca family has been stripped of their ports on the East Coast. The Valente Group has officially transitioned all its assets into legitimate logistics shipping."
"It’s over?" she asked, looking at him.
"It’s over," he promised, kissing her forehead. "No more running, Meline. No more aliases. Just us."
He looked out over the blue waters of the lake, his arm wrapping around her waist, holding her close to his side.
For thirty years, Dominic Valente had built an empire of steel, blood, and fear, believing that his survival depended on his ruthlessness.
But as he looked at the woman who had survived his world and the child who carried his name, he knew that the true foundation of his empire was sitting on a stone terrace in the clean air of Switzerland.
