Chapter 4 - The Federal Raid

"FBI! Nobody move!"
The shout echoed off the crystal chandeliers as federal agents rushed into the dining room, weapons drawn, ordering patrons to put their hands on the tables. Chaos erupted instantly. Wealthy diners screamed, diving under tables and scrambling toward the rear exits, while Camilla burst into hysterical tears, clutching her designer handbag like a shield.
The lead agent—a tall, broad-shouldered man with a scarred cheek and cold, gray eyes—pushed through the perimeter, his pistol aimed directly at Alessandro Moretti.
"Don't even think about it, Moretti," the agent barked, flashing a badge. "Special Agent Marcus Vance, federal task force. You're under arrest for racketeering, money laundering, and conspiracy."
Alessandro didn't raise his hands. He didn't even flinch. He slowly adjusted his cuffs, his expression one of supreme, untouchable boredom.
"Agent Vance," Alessandro said smoothly, his voice carrying effortlessly over the shouting patrons. "You burst into my establishment with guns drawn without a proper jurisdictional warrant, and you assume I'm the one running the syndicate?"
"We've been building a RICO case against Black Star Holdings for three years," Vance snapped, stepping closer. "We know the restaurant is a front. And we know who owns the shell companies."
Vance’s eyes flicked over Alessandro’s shoulder, landing directly on me. His expression hardened further. "And who is this? Another innocent employee caught in the crossfire?"
"She's not an employee anymore," Alessandro replied calmly.
Before I could process what he meant, Alessandro reached out, took my arm, and pulled me smoothly behind his protective frame, shielding me from the direct line of the federal agents' weapons.
"She's a witness," Alessandro continued, looking at Vance with a challenging smirk. "In fact, she just decrypted the exact operational manifest proving who actually embezzled eight million dollars from the international relief fund fifteen years ago—an embezzlement your own federal agency helped cover up to protect a corrupt undersecretary."
Agent Vance’s face went rigid. The color drained from his cheeks so fast it looked like a magic trick.
"What did you say?" Vance hissed, taking a threatening step forward.
"You heard me," Alessandro said, his voice dropping into a lethal purr. "The records are in the lower cellar. My man Rocco is retrieving them right now. You can arrest me for running a high-end restaurant if you want, Agent Vance, but if you try to silence her or bury those files like your predecessors did fifteen years ago, I will tear every federal office in this district down to the bedrock."
The dining room fell into an electric, suffocating silence.
Agent Vance looked between Alessandro and me, his hand tightening around his service pistol until his knuckles turned white. For a terrifying second, I wondered if Vance would shoot us both right there on the spot to bury the conspiracy once and for all.
Then the kitchen doors swung open.
Rocco stepped back into the dining room, carrying a heavy, fireproof metal lockbox under one arm and a thick stack of vintage paper ledgers in the other. He walked over, dropped the box onto table four right beside the spilled wine glass, and looked at Alessandro.

"Found it, boss," Rocco said flatly. "The complete transaction ledger from fifteen years ago. Including the signatures of the federal officials who signed off on the frame-up."
Agent Vance stared at the metal box as if it were a ticking bomb.
