Chapter 2: The Street Goes Silent
Fifteen minutes later, the sound of engines echoed through the neighborhood.
One black SUV turned onto the street.
Then another.
And another.
Six vehicles stopped in front of Ethan's house.
The rain continued to fall as men in dark suits stepped out and opened the rear passenger door of the lead vehicle.
William Bennett emerged.
The billionaire looked older than the magazines showed him.
But the moment he saw his pregnant daughter standing barefoot in the rain, something changed in his face.
The entire street became silent.
He walked directly past Ethan.
Past Vanessa.
Past Diane.
Only stopping when he reached Olivia.
Without saying a word, he removed his coat and wrapped it around her shoulders.
Then he knelt in the rain and gently picked up the wooden keepsake box that had fallen from her suitcase.
"Did he hurt you?" he asked quietly.
Olivia shook her head.
"No."
William nodded slowly.
"Good."
Then he stood and finally looked at Ethan.
The expression in his eyes made Ethan take an unconscious step backward.
"Three years," William said.
"I gave you three years to prove me wrong."
Ethan's stomach tightened.
"What are you talking about?"
William smiled.
"A father checks on the man who marries his daughter."
Vanessa's face turned pale.
Diane grabbed the porch railing again.

Because suddenly they realized something terrifying.
William Bennett hadn't just discovered them today.
He had been watching all along.
