CHAPTER 3: FINDING ALEJANDRO
The next morning, I made a decision.
I wasn't going to run anymore.
I contacted a federal investigator whose name appeared inside Alejandro's files.
Agent Ricardo Vega.
At first he didn't believe me.
Then I showed him the USB.
Within an hour, three federal vehicles arrived outside my apartment.
The investigation exploded.
The woman known as Camila Montenegro officially did not exist.
Every document attached to her identity was fake.
Every company connected to her led to shell corporations.
Every trail ended in corruption.
For two weeks authorities searched.
Then they found something.
An abandoned ranch outside Zacatecas.
Underground rooms.
Private security.
False walls.
And inside one locked room...
They found Alejandro.
Alive.
Barely.
When I saw him in the hospital, I almost didn't recognize him.
He looked twenty years older.
His hands shook.
His face was thin.
But when he saw Sofía standing beside me, tears filled his eyes instantly.
"Daddy?"

The single word shattered him.
He pulled her into his arms and cried harder than I had ever seen any man cry.
"I'm sorry," he whispered over and over.
"I'm so sorry."
For three years he had been drugged, manipulated, isolated, and controlled.
The public story about the billionaire romance had been a lie.
The truth was far darker.
And now the entire country was learning about it.
