Chapter 4 - The Greatest Gift (Ending)Months later...
Garrett sold his failing business.
He found steady employment.
Celeste also began working full-time.
For the first time in years...
They supported themselves.
Not because Rhonda rescued them again.
Because she didn't.
She still loved them.
But love no longer meant enabling selfishness.
Her grandchildren started visiting every Saturday.
Together they baked cookies, planted flowers, and listened to stories about their grandfather Philip.

The children began seeing the grandmother they had barely noticed before.
One Christmas Eve, exactly one year after that terrible dinner, Garrett knocked on Rhonda's cottage door carrying a homemade pecan pie.
"I made it myself."
She laughed.
"It looks terrible."
"It probably tastes worse."
Both of them smiled.
During dinner, Garrett quietly placed an envelope beside her plate.
Inside was the original deed to the old family house.
Along with a handwritten letter.
"Mom, a house never stopped being yours just because your name came off the paper. It stopped feeling like home because I forgot who built it with love. Thank you for teaching me that family is never measured by what we receive—but by what we're willing to give."
Rhonda reached across the table and held her son's hand.
"I don't need the house back."
"I already found my home."
She looked around her little cottage, filled with warmth, laughter, and people who had finally learned gratitude.
As snow drifted gently outside the windows, she realized the greatest Christmas gift she had ever given her family wasn't money...
It was the chance to learn that kindness should never be mistaken for weakness.
Because generosity given without respect becomes entitlement.
