Chapter 4 - The House of Cards Collapses

I tapped my screen and sent a second batch of digital documents flying across the fiber-optic lines directly to my parents’ iPad and Jason's smartphone.

"What is this?" Jason muttered, his voice trembling as he opened the attachment. "A... a notice to vacate? A thirty-day foreclosure notice on my house? And... and the company tax liens?"

"Those aren't just liens, little brother," I said, leaning back against my kitchen counter. "For the last three years, you’ve been funneling corporate bonuses into personal offshore accounts to pay for your mistress’s apartment and your sports cars, marking them as equipment overhead. I caught the discrepancies in the Q3 audits, but I chose to absorb them to protect the family name. As of two minutes ago, I forwarded those exact forensic audit reports to the Internal Revenue Service and the state fraud division."

A sharp, choking gasp echoed through the phone line.

"You... you reported us to the IRS?!" my father’s voice roared in the background, background noises of breaking glass and shouting indicating complete chaos in their living room. "You destroyed your own family over a bruised ego?!"

"No, Dad," I replied, my voice hard as granite. "I destroyed my abusers because you thought my daughter was a stray dog. You taught her that people who share your blood are allowed to degrade you, mock you, and treat you like trash. Well, I’m teaching her a very different lesson today: that nobody—nobody—gets away with hurting her."

"Elena, please," my mother’s voice suddenly shifted from furious screeching to pathetic, weeping desperation. "Please, honey... talk to us. We’re your family. We can fix this. Come over for dinner—we’ll apologize to Lily, we’ll make it right, just lift the freeze on the accounts, the mortgage company is already calling—"

"The mortgage company is calling because you no longer own your house," I interrupted coldly. "The trust deed has been officially reassigned to a charitable foundation for pediatric trauma recovery. By Tuesday morning, the sheriffs will be serving eviction notices to both your estate and Jason’s home."

"You can't do this!" Jason shrieked, panic turning his voice feral. "We'll sue you! We'll take you to court! We'll strip you of custody, we'll ruin your life—"

"Try it," I whispered. "Every single piece of evidence, every recorded conversation of your emotional abuse, and every financial crime you’ve committed is already backed up on three secure cloud servers controlled by federal investigators. If you ever come near me or my daughter again, I won't just lock your bank accounts. I’ll make sure you spend the next ten years wearing orange jumpsuits."

I didn't wait for their response. I tapped the red button, cutting the call off mid-sentence.

The silence that rushed back into my kitchen was absolute, heavy, and wonderfully peaceful.
