Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation at the Gate

The afternoon sun glinted off the polished black hoods of four heavy sedans idling just outside the wrought-iron security gates of the Moretti estate.

Carlo Rossi stood beside the lead vehicle, leaning heavily on an ebony walking cane tipped with silver. Despite his seventy years, his eyes were sharp, calculating, and filled with the bitter poison of wounded pride. Behind him stood a dozen syndicate enforcers in dark suits, their hands resting loosely near their jackets.

Inside the gatehouse, Marco stood with four tactical guards, their automatic rifles pointed downward but ready.

The heavy oak doors of the mansion swung open, and Lorenzo stepped out onto the front steps. He didn't rush. He walked down the grand marble pathway with the unhurried, devastating grace of a man who held all the cards. He wore a simple black turtleneck and tailored trousers, his hands tucked casually into his pockets.

He stopped ten feet behind the iron gate, looking down at the aging mafia boss with absolute indifference.

"Carlo," Lorenzo greeted evenly. "You're a long way from Chicago. Age must be making your sense of direction worse."

Rossi’s face twisted into an ugly snarl. He jabbed his cane against the asphalt. "You think you can cast off my niece like a broken toy, Lorenzo? You think you can humiliate the Rossi name, freeze her accounts, and send her back to us like a beggar without paying a price?"

"Your niece tried to arrange my assassination, Carlo," Lorenzo replied, his voice carrying effortlessly across the quiet courtyard. "She conspired with my cousin to have my vehicle run off a mountain road, and she terrorized a six-year-old child inside my own home. I didn't send her back as a beggar. I sent her back alive—which is far more generous than she deserved, and infinitely more merciful than what I usually offer traitors."

Rossi stepped closer to the gate, his teeth bared. "She’s family! Blood ties mean something in our world, whether you like it or not!"

"Blood ties stopped mattering the moment she traded loyalty for a coup," Lorenzo said, his voice dropping an octave, freezing the air between them. "And if you're here to negotiate for her assets, save your breath. Every penny she tried to siphon through those Swiss accounts has already been seized and redirected into federal restitution funds. She has nothing. And if you don't clear your cars off my road in the next sixty seconds, you will have nothing left either."

Rossi raised a trembling hand, pointing a finger at Lorenzo. "You've grown arrogant, boy. You think because you cleaned house here that you're untouchable. The council won't let this stand—"

"The council doesn't exist anymore, Carlo," Lorenzo interrupted sharply. "Julian is in a federal holding cell facing four counts of conspiracy and wire fraud. The European syndicates have dissolved their ties to your network, and your accounts in New York have been flagged by federal regulators as of this morning. You are a ghost fighting for a tomb."

Rossi froze. The color drained from his weathered face. He looked at Lorenzo, finally realizing the terrifying scope of the trap he had walked into. There was no leverage left. No hidden cards. Just absolute, unyielding annihilation.

Lorenzo turned his back on him without waiting for a reply.

"Marco," Lorenzo called out over his shoulder.

"Yes, Boss?"

"If these cars haven't moved in one minute, have the security team tow them into the junkyard."

May you like

"With pleasure, Boss."

As Lorenzo walked back toward the mansion, the heavy roar of engine revs echoed behind him. When he glanced back over his shoulder from the front steps, the tail-lights of Rossi’s convoy were already disappearing down the winding tree-lined drive in a cloud of dust and defeat.
