Chapter 3: The Mansion Was Already Empty

Patricia suddenly pointed toward the house.

"It doesn't matter! Ryan's belongings are still inside!"

Madison laughed softly.

"No, Patricia."

"They aren't."

She reached into her purse and pressed a button on her phone.

The enormous front doors slowly opened.

Gasps echoed through the crowd.

The mansion looked beautiful.

But completely empty.

Every room had been professionally packed weeks earlier.

The artwork.

The furniture.

The antiques inherited from Madison's parents.

The grand piano.

Even the crystal chandeliers purchased after the wedding.

Gone.

Only the walls remained.

Patricia blinked repeatedly.

"What..."

Ryan stared through the open doorway.

"You emptied the house?"

Madison nodded.

"The divorce required an inventory."

"I simply followed my attorney's advice."

Victoria smiled.

"Everything inside belonged to Madison before the marriage or was purchased solely with her separate funds."

Ryan whispered,

"So... there's nothing left?"

Madison met his eyes.

"Not for you."

One of the movers quietly asked Patricia,

"Ma'am... where exactly are we unloading?"

May you like

Nobody answered.

Because there was nowhere to unload.
