Chapter 3: The Truth Comes Out

The next morning, we drove to the apartment.

Police officers accompanied us.

As soon as Lydia opened the door, her confidence vanished.

"What is this?" she snapped.

An officer handed her the court order.

"You are illegally occupying this property."

Her face turned white.

Then Derek appeared behind her.

The moment he saw Sarah holding the baby, he looked annoyed rather than relieved.

That told me everything.

Sarah stepped forward.

"Why?"

Derek laughed nervously.

"It's all a misunderstanding."

But the officers had already begun searching.

Minutes later, one of them emerged carrying a folder.

Inside were bank records, forged documents, and emails between Derek and his mother.

One message stood out.

"Once the baby is born, she'll be too weak to fight back."

The room fell silent.

Even the officers looked stunned.

Sarah's hands shook as she read it.

The betrayal cut deeper than any knife.

Derek tried to explain.

Tried to blame his mother.

Tried to blame money.

But nobody was listening anymore.

The handcuffs clicked around his wrists.

And for the first time, I watched fear replace arrogance in his eyes.
