Chapter 4 - The Bellardi Estate

The black armored Mercedes glided smoothly through the iron gates of an expansive, secluded estate tucked away in Westchester County, far from the chaotic noise of Manhattan.
The drive had been quiet. Dominic had allowed me to sit in silence, processing the wreckage of my past while the city lights faded into dark, tree-lined country roads. When the car finally came to a stop in front of a sprawling, limestone mansion designed with classic European architecture and modern glass accents, a team of discreet staff members was already waiting by the entrance.
"Welcome to your temporary home, Clara," Dominic said, stepping out of the car and opening my door.
I stepped onto the cobblestone driveway, looking up at the imposing yet elegant structure. It wasn't just a house; it was a fortress of absolute privacy and security.
As we walked inside through the grand double doors, a middle-aged woman with kind eyes and a crisp gray uniform stepped forward.
"Mr. Bellardi. Welcome home," she said, her eyes shifting warmly toward me. "I'm Mrs. Higgins. Everything is prepared in the west wing suite."
"Thank you, Mrs. Higgins," Dominic replied. "Please ensure Miss Sterling has everything she needs—change of clothes, hot tea, and absolute quiet."
"Of course, sir. Right this way, Miss Sterling."
I hesitated, looking back at Dominic. "You don't have to keep playing protector, Dominic. I can take care of myself. I’ve spent the last three years cleaning up messes far bigger than this."
Dominic stopped, walking back over until he stood just inches away. Up close, the silver threads in his hair and the weathered lines around his eyes only added to his commanding presence.
"I know you can," he said quietly. "That's why I'm here. Not to protect you from the world, Clara, but to make sure you have the space to decide what you want to build next."
For the first time that night, a genuine warmth bloomed in my chest. I nodded slowly, following Mrs. Higgins down a wide, art-lined corridor into a stunning, sun-lit suite that overlooked a quiet, moonlit garden.
The room was luxurious, filled with soft cashmere throws, private bookshelves, and an ensuite marble bathroom. But more than the luxury, it offered something I hadn't felt in years: absolute safety.
By sunrise, the outside world would erupt.
The headlines would scream about the sudden collapse of the Blake-Wexler Foundation, Nathan’s dramatic federal arrest, and the mysterious billionaire shadow pulling the strings behind the scenes.

But as I stood by the window watching the moonlight dance across the garden leaves, I realized I wasn't afraid.
The fire had cleared the forest. And I was finally ready to grow.
