CHAPTER 3: THE FALL OF A KING

Ten minutes later, nobody was laughing anymore.

Every guest remained seated.

Nobody was allowed to leave.

Arthur Sterling entered the ballroom.

No grand entrance.

No bodyguards surrounding him.

Just a seventy-year-old man in a simple black suit.

But the entire room stood up immediately.

Even senators.

Even CEOs.

Victor remained frozen.

Arthur walked toward me.

His eyes softened when he saw my injured face.

“Did he do this?”

I nodded once.

Arthur looked at Victor.

There was no anger in his expression.

Only disappointment.

Which was somehow far more terrifying.

Victor swallowed hard.

“Mr. Sterling, this is a misunderstanding…”

Arthur interrupted him.

“No.”

“This is a consequence.”

He turned toward the giant screens.

One by one, Victor's businesses appeared.

Every illegal account.

Every bribery payment.

Every fraudulent contract.

Every corrupt partnership.

Years of crimes.

Collected.

Verified.

Waiting.

Arthur spoke quietly.

“You mistook influence for immunity.”

The room remained silent.

“You believed money could erase accountability.”

Another screen changed.

Federal authorities notified.

Victor collapsed into a chair.

“No… please…”

His friends immediately distanced themselves.

Nobody wanted to drown with him.

Arthur turned to me.

“Are you ready to go home?”

I smiled.

“Yes, Dad.”

As we walked away, Victor shouted desperately.

“You planned this!”

I stopped at the doorway.

Then I looked back one final time.

“No.”

“You planned this yourself.”

“You simply assumed there would never be consequences.”

The steel doors slowly opened.

Cold Manhattan air rushed inside.

Behind us…

An empire was collapsing.

Ahead of us…

The city lights stretched endlessly into the night.

And for the first time all evening…

I was no longer the woman they thought they had trapped.

May you like

I was the storm they never saw coming.

And storms don't ask for permission before they arrive.
