Chapter 6 - The Vow Fulfilled

Three months later, the spring sun was finally melting the last remnants of winter snow across the sprawling lawns of Mercer House.
The iron gates remained, but the tombs-like chill inside the mansion was gone, replaced by the sound of small footsteps running down the hallway, the clatter of toy blocks, and genuine laughter echoing against the marble walls.
Ray Maddox and his thugs were long gone, sentenced to federal penitentiaries following an anonymous, devastating tip delivered directly to the FBI by Moretti Holdings’ legal division.
And in the grand courtyard beneath the blossoming cherry trees, a quiet ceremony took place.
There were no crowds. No powerful crime lords or frightened politicians. Just Mrs. Whitmore standing by with a gentle smile, a federal judge holding a leather-bound registry, and five-year-old Noah—dressed in a sharp miniature suit, holding a velvet ring box with shaking hands.
I stood facing Damian in a simple ivory dress, the afternoon sun warming my shoulders.
Damian slid a platinum band onto my finger, his dark eyes shining with a profound, unshakeable devotion that wiped away every scar of my past.
“You gave me my son back, Clara,” Damian whispered, leaning in to press a warm, lingering kiss against my lips. “And you gave my heart a reason to start beating again.”
Down by our feet, Noah tugged gently on the hem of my dress. I looked down, crouching to his level.

“Mom,” Noah said proudly, holding out the velvet ring box with a bright, gap-toothed grin. “I said it right, didn't I?”
I smiled, pulling him into a tight, fierce embrace alongside his father, knowing with absolute certainty that no matter what shadows waited outside the gates, we had finally found our way home.
