Chapter 7 - The Trap at the Gallery

The revelation hung in the air of the subterranean workshop like smoke. The micro-SD card rested in Kalin's palm, a tiny piece of plastic holding the explosive proof that could either dismantle Viktor Vance’s entire criminal enterprise or get us both killed.
"Vance knows we have it," Kalin said, his phone buzzing with an encrypted alert from one of his scouts stationed in the city. "His men just breached the Rossi Gallery's loading bay. They're looking for the frame."
"They'll destroy the entire collection," I said, panic flaring in my chest. "Those paintings—centuries of art history—they won't hesitate to tear them apart looking for the rest of the codes."
Kalin looked down at me, his expression hardening into absolute, unbreakable resolve. "Then we give Vance what he wants."
"Are you insane?" I stepped back. "That card contains the access codes to your entire port network!"
"It contains a trap," Kalin corrected calmly, a dangerous, cold smile touching the corner of his mouth. "Vance wants a public exchange. He wants the assets handed over at the gallery tonight, under the cover of the midnight shift. We will let him think he’s won."
"And me?" I asked, my voice dropping to a whisper. "What do I do?"
"You stay here," Kalin said instantly.
"No," I replied, crossing my arms. "My father started this mess, and my workplace is currently being overrun by thugs. I am coming with you."
Kalin stared at me for three long, agonizing seconds, searching my eyes for hesitation. Finding none, he let out a short, sharp sigh of defeat.
"Rosa!" he called out toward the doorway.

The older woman appeared instantly. "Yes, boss?"
"Outfit her with a tactical vest and get the armored transport ready. We're going back into the city."
