Chapter 2 - The Architect of Ruin

The next forty-eight hours would be studied in business schools for decades as the swiftest corporate collapse in history.
As Ethan sat by Claire’s bedside, holding her hand while she slept, his team was working in total, silent synchronicity. The video wasn't just sent to the press; it was embedded into the metadata of Grant’s company’s latest quarterly earnings report, which was scheduled to go live at 8:00 AM.
When the board of Holloway Enterprises opened their files to review the performance, they didn't see growth projections. They saw a high-definition, viral video of their CEO physically assaulting his pregnant wife.
The impact was immediate.
Stock prices plummeted, wiping out three hundred million dollars in market value in less than two hours. Investors panicked, pulling out of contracts. The SEC, already tipped off by Ethan regarding the misappropriation of company funds for Grant’s lavish lifestyle and hush-money payments to Madison, arrived at the headquarters with a literal truckload of subpoenas.
Inside the hospital, the shift was palpable. The hospital board, previously cowed by Grant’s donations, suddenly found their conscience. The security team that had been blocking the doors to Claire’s suite was replaced by Ethan’s men, and the doctors who had been "suggesting" Claire be discharged were suddenly terrified of medical malpractice lawsuits.
Grant Holloway found himself trapped in a gilded cage of his own making. He tried to call his lawyers, but they had already resigned, citing "conflicts of interest." He tried to call his publicist, but she had already sold the exclusive rights to his downfall to a rival media conglomerate.
He was radioactive.
On the third day, Claire finally sat up. Noah was stable, the abruption was being managed with medication, and her vitals were finally within normal ranges. She looked at Ethan, who was reading a book in the armchair, his presence a shield against the outside world.
"He’s losing everything, isn't he?" she asked, her voice raspy but stronger.
Ethan closed the book. "He’s losing more than that. He’s losing his freedom. We found the offshore accounts he used to pay off his creditors. The money wasn't his, Claire. It was his clients'. That’s wire fraud, money laundering, and racketeering."
"And Madison?"
Ethan scoffed. "She was the first to fold. She handed over every message, every threat, and every video she had in exchange for immunity. She’s currently in a safe house in Arizona, and she’s already talking to the feds."
Claire looked down at her stomach, a small, tired smile touching her lips. "I just wanted to be safe. I never wanted to be a martyr."
"You aren't a martyr," Ethan said, standing up and walking to the bedside. He reached out and brushed a stray lock of hair from her face. "You’re the architect of his destruction. You survived him. That was the most dangerous thing you could have ever done."
The door opened, and Dr. Aris entered, looking relieved. "Mr. Bennett, Mrs. Holloway, I have good news. The ultrasound shows Noah is doing exceptionally well. He’s a fighter."
Claire felt the tears spill over. "Thank you."
"There is just one thing," the doctor added, her voice dropping. "Grant Holloway is downstairs. He’s demanding to see you. He claims he has a legal right to his 'marital assets.'"

Claire looked at Ethan. "He still doesn't get it, does he?"
Ethan stood up, his tall frame blocking the doorway as he checked his watch. "He thinks he’s a shark, Claire. He hasn't realized he’s in the water with a whale."
