Chapter 9 - Reclaiming the Mirror

Back at the Buckhead mansion, the movers arrived promptly at 2:00 PM to clear out the remaining boxes of Beckett’s personal belongings.

Marlo stood in the foyer, watching the men carry out his golf clubs and designer suits without feeling a single twinge of regret or sadness. There were no tears, no lingering attachments, and no doubts.

When the last box was loaded into the back of a rental van, the lead mover handed Marlo a clipboard to sign.

"All set, Mrs. Cole," the man said politely.

"Thank you," she replied, signing her maiden name—Greene—at the bottom of the page.

She closed the front door, locked the deadbolt, and walked into the living room. The afternoon sunlight was streaming through the windows, illuminating the white lilies in the crystal vase Lorraine had once gifted her.

Instead of throwing the vase away, Marlo smiled at it. It wasn't a symbol of their judgment anymore; it was a reminder of how far she had come. She had kept the vase, but she had changed the entire house around it.

Her phone buzzed on the coffee table.

It was a text message from Marcus Vance: "All asset transfers complete. The restructuring is fully finalized. Congratulations, CEO Greene. Tonight calls for a celebration."

Marlo picked up the phone, a bright, genuine smile touching her lips. She typed back a quick reply: "Thank you, Marcus. Let's celebrate at eight."

She walked upstairs to the master suite, opened her walk-in closet, and selected a stunning emerald-green silk dress she had bought months ago but never dared to wear because Beckett had claimed the color "didn't fit their social circle."

She slipped it on, looked at her reflection in the full-length mirror, and gasped softly at the transformation.

The woman in the glass wasn't hiding behind a polite smile or swallowing her words to keep the peace. She was fierce, brilliant, and completely unstoppable.
