Chapter 10 - A Life Unlocked

Spring returned to Chicago with a sudden burst of green life, melting the final patches of snow along Lake Michigan and bathing the penthouse in warm, golden sunlight.
The grand ballroom of the penthouse—once the site of the most disastrous night of Caleb’s life—was filled once again, but this time, the atmosphere was entirely different. There were no fake smiles, no nervous senators, and no scheming socialites.
Instead, the room was filled with local community leaders, hardworking families from Hannah’s outreach programs, close friends, and loyal colleagues who had stood by the company through its darkest hours.
At the center of the room stood a simple, elegant buffet table, surrounded by laughter and music.
Margaret Whitmore stood near the window, chatting warmly with Hannah, who wore a stunning emerald-green dress that made her eyes sparkle with quiet confidence.
And near the center of the room, Caleb Whitmore knelt down on one knee to tie a loose shoelace on a small pair of scuffed black shoes.
As he stood back up, little Lucy wrapped her small arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder. Caleb wrapped his arms around her, looking out across the room filled with genuine warmth, real laughter, and unbreakable trust.
He didn't need a golden mask anymore. His life was fully open, beautifully messy, and anchored by love.
